February marks the end of our captaincy – the year really does seem to have flown by! We are looking forward to a fantastic evening at the Swansong Ball at Lillibrooke Manor and are thrilled to have nearly 150 people attending. The AGM takes place on the evening of Tuesday 19th February and we hope to see many golfers there. The new Captains – Peter Condon, Julie Metelko and Will Halliday) will then hit their drives at 9.30am on February 23rd and the Drive-In promises to be a great day.

2019 is a very special year as it marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of the golf course at Castle Royle. The main celebration event will be a Ball in a marquee at the Club on Saturday 25th May and tables can be booked in the Pro Shop.

The relatively mild weather has meant that a lot of people are still playing regularly and the course seems in great shape. The Winter knockouts are nearing their final stages so good luck to all who have key matches to come. Well done to the First Team who are in the Final of the Winter Pairs Scratch competition having beaten Gerrards Cross in the semi. David Langley has been awarded the First Team Player of the Year award with a 100% record in his matches.

Cara Gainer has been representing England in Australia this month. She reached the matchplay quarter-final of the New South Wales Amateur tournament in Sydney and has one more competition before returning.

Congratulations to David who also represented England in the Octagonal Match in late January at Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club in Spain, playing against some of the best amateur golfers in Europe. Dave’s record was quite impressive from seven matches he collected a very creditable 4.5 points, which included 4 wins 1 half and 2 defeats, which was the best performance of anyone in the England team. Everyone at the club is looking forward to following Dave and all of our elite players progress over the next year.

Finally a huge thank you to Patrick and his team for an excellent Hell’s Kitchen event which raised £1,400 for our Captains’ Charity, Alzheimers Dementia Support.
