Hole

Overview

Set in rolling Berkshire countryside, Castle Royle is one of the finest Golf Clubs in England where you will enjoy year-round play on a superb, 18-hole par 72 Championship Golf course designed by Neil Coles to exacting USGA standards. The course, established in 1994, has been configured in two loops of nine holes combining the characteristics of a links and parkland course.

Hole

Hole 1

Ideally a drive down the left side of the fairway gives the best chance to secure par. This will open up the path for the approach shot. The green is guarded by two bunkers to the right hand side guard the green.

Hole

Hole 2

A long challenging hole which requires two strong hits to reach this green. Bunkers left and right gives little room for error. The green offers a big left to right slope. A par here is a great score.

Hole

Hole 3

Shortest par 4 on the course but not to be under estimated, follow the fairway from left to right. The longer hitter may be brave and go straight for the green, where there are two deep bunkers surrounding the green to test ones bunker play.

Hole

Hole 4

A stunning par 5 slightly downhill plays the shortest of the par 5’s. two long fairway bunkers can catch a lot of stray shots. Ideally a left to right flighted shot gives you the best chance of keeping the ball on the fairway. The green is well guarded by two bunkers giving an island green feeling. Putting is tricky as there are 3 tiers to the green.

Hole

Hole 5

One of the toughest holes on the course. Premium on the tee shot; lake to the left and eventually in front with slit bottle neck to the fairway. Be careful to bold an approach could put you in the back bunker which will really test your sand play. This hole can show its teeth, good luck!

Hole

Hole 6

A magnificent par 3. Water to the left and beyond the green. The green is the toughest on the course, huge slopes on three tiers. Par generally wins the hole.

Hole

Hole 7

Keep out of the bunker and you should make a good score. A long hole with a draw off the tee would suit.

Hole

Hole 8

A par 5 that has everything. Fairway bunkers to the right, and a huge feature lake to the right to catch the second shot. Extremely long hitters can reach the green in two, but staying on the green can prove difficult. Two deep bunkers right and left generally eat up most shots.

Hole

Hole 9

If you can hit a long iron the this hole isn’t a problem. Bunker to the left and lake to the right. The green severely slopes from left to right towards the water.

Hole

Hole 10

A dog leg to the left with a blind second shot. Club members believe this it be one of the tougher holes on the course. An aggressive tee shot over the left hand fairway bunker can be a hole winner.

Hole

Hole 11

A swinging dog leg to the left suits a long draw off the tee-huge fairway bunker to the right and water hazard to the left. The slimmest green on the course makes it very difficult to hold the ball on. Word of advice play to the left of the front of the green and avoid the bunkers.

Hole

Hole 12

A well guarded par 3, bunkers surrounding the putting surface. The green is tilted to the right so a back left pin is a dangerous shot to take on.

Hole

Hole 13

A thinker’s par 5! Lake to the left and another further up to the right. The perfect solution is a draw of the tee into the bottle neck and then a high fade onto the green and a single putt for eagle…. Otherwise following the fairway round should secure your par.

Hole

Hole 14

Demanding par 4. Length off the tee is a great asset, fairway bunkers to the right and bunkers left of the green. Two soft draws and two putts is a good score.

Hole

Hole 15

The longest hole on the course and uphill!!! A crafty ditch at 300 yard off the tee, followed by fairway bunkers to the left and right. A par here is well earned.

Hole

Hole 16

The toughest hole on the course, out of bounds on the left and a hedge and water hazard on the right. The tee shot requires a draw and the approach to narrow green, pin point accuracy. Any shot to the left will find water and to the right will be gathered up by a deep bunker. The green is raised with a subtle burrows. A fabulous hole which requires concentration and long hitting.

Hole

Hole 17

The green is surrounded by deep bunkers with a bail out to the right. The green slopes from front to back, distances control from the tee is essential.

Hole

Hole 18

A stunning finishing hole, the best in the county. A tough driving hole with out of bounds on left and a long fairway bunker on the right. The elevated tee gives a great view to the challenge ahead, a bottle necked fairway and an island green-no room for the error here the pressure is on, can you handle it!!!
